A Career Built On Transforming Athletes

At the helm of the University of Texas Women’s Tennis Team for 23 years (1982-2005), Coach Jeff Moore took the program to unprecedented heights. During his time at Texas, the Longhorns won two NCAA Division I Championships (1993 & 1995), had ten top-five finishes nationally, and won 18 regular-season conference championships.

When Texas won the NCAA title in 1993, the Longhorns were the lowest seeded team (No. 5) to win the NCAA title over No. 2 Stanford and gave the women’s tennis program its first ever NCAA crown. Two years later, the Longhorns found themselves in the finals once again, this time facing the top-ranked Florida Gators. Getting off to a slow start in singles, the Longhorns turned the tides and swept the doubles matches to claim their second National Championship.

On March 12, 2001, Moore checked another coaching milestone off by acquiring 500 career wins. By the time of his retirement, Moore had a career coaching mark of 569-202 (.738), 481 of those wins coming at Texas.

Moore was named National Coach of the Year in 1993, earned Southwest Region Coach of the Year honors six times and was voted Southwest Coach of the Year eight times (1983-85, ’87, ’89, 1992-93 and 1995).

Prior to his time in Austin, Moore began his coaching career at his alma mater, the University of Redlands. At Redlands, Moore coached both the women’s tennis and basketball teams. After two years with the Bulldogs, Moore headed west to the University of Colorado, where he led the Buffaloes to national prominence, before finally landing the head coach position at the University of Texas in 1982. Moore has also had experience as a teacher, administrator and basketball coach at all levels.

Today, Moore still finds passion and enjoyment helping individuals reach their potential. As the CEO of Moore Leadership, Moore helps businesses and schools recruit and develop top performers. In this role, Moore has had the opportunity to speak and educate others on topics ranging from biomechanics to cutting edge mental and emotional training methods.

Moore is a member of the Longhorn Hall of Honor and the Texas Tennis Hall of Fame. He served as Chairperson of the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Tennis Committee, as well as a member of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Board of Directors. In 2014, Moore was inducted into the ITA Women’s Collegiate Tennis Hall of Fame.
